Viewing and configuring Server Health reports in Plesk
A new feature in Plesk 10 is Health Monitoring. This is designed to simplify server troubleshooting and let you configure alarm thresholds for automatic notification.
There are five sections indicating the health of the different types of system resources: Services, Disk, Memory, CPU, and Network. Plesk lets you see the health of all of these resources from your home page.
Confirming your version of Plesk
Plesk 8
1. Log in to Plesk using URL https://IPAddress:8443/
2. Click on Desktop if not already selected when loading the panel interface
3. Under Server Information, you can verify your Plesk Version
Managing Security Token Settings to secure WHM
In order to connect to your dedicated or cloud server without problems, WHM Security Token settings must be tweaked. The default is set to “on”. This default setting can causes a disconnection between you and your server. Change the default to “Off” to avoid an “Access Denied” message.
DEFINITION of backbone
A backbone is a larger transmission line that carries data gathered from smaller lines that interconnect with it.
1) At the local level, a backbone is a line or set of lines that local area networks connect to for a wide area network connection or within a local area network to span distances efficiently (for example, between buildings).
DEFINITION of distributed file system
A distributed file system is a client/server-based application that allows clients to access and process data stored on the server as if it were on their own computer. When a user accesses a file on the server, the server sends the user a copy of the file, which is cached on the user’s computer while the data is being processed and is then returned to the server.
DEFINITION of ATM
ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) is a dedicated-connection switching technology that organizes digital data into 53-byte cell units and transmits them over a physical medium using digital signal technology. Individually, a cell is processed asynchronously relative to other related cells and is queued before being multiplexed over the transmission path.
DEFINITION of block cipher
A block cipher is a method of encrypting text (to produce ciphertext) in which a cryptographic key and algorithm are applied to a block of data (for example, 64 contiguous bits) at once as a group rather than to one bit at a time. The main alternative method, used much less frequently, is called the stream cipher.
DEFINITION of digital certificate
A digital certificate is an electronic “passport” that allows a person, computer or organization to exchange information securely over the Internet using the public key infrastructure (PKI). A digital certificate may also be referred to as a public key certificate.
DEFINITION of Ethernet
Ethernet is the most widely-installed local area network ( LAN) technology. Specified in a standard, IEEE 802.3, Ethernet was originally developed by Xerox from an earlier specification called Alohanet (for the Palo Alto Research Center Aloha network) and then developed further by Xerox, DEC, and Intel. An Ethernet LAN
